MommyCast is a weekly internet radio show for and by women immersed in the fullness of motherhood and life.

Welcome! Welcome!

Welcome! You're probably here because we sent you a totally compelling and intriguing invitation, but even if I didn't please stay! Paige and Gretchen have invited you to join us here at the Mommycast.ning network and we SO need your help. We would all be extremely grateful if you'd take the site for a test drive...participate in the "What's Going On Today?" activities, and then let me know what you think.

XOXO Paige & Gretchen

Top Five Things the Mommies are Talking About on MommyCast

1) Getting a solid eight hours of sleep a night sounds great, but unfortunately for us and for our kids its a rare occurrence. In THIS episode Paige and Gretchen meet with Kim West, the Sleep Lady, and discuss the benefits of getting a good night sleep. If you have tips and tricks of your own please visit our Facebook page and share! This episode is sponsored by Chicco. Visit Chicco’s website today to view their premier baby products.

2) Bullying has always been an issue with children, and unfortunately with the continues rise in social networking bullies are now invading your home as well as the school yard. According to the National Crime Prevention Council, “Cyberbullying” is a problem that affects almost half of all American teens. In THIS episode Paige and Gretchen discuss the hardships of Cyberbullying as well as what parents can do to prevent it. For more on Cyberbullying and Internet safety visit the Family Online Safety Institute website. Also check out their new video “Go Figure” which gives stats on Internet usage for kids and teens. If you have any information that you would like to share with us, please visit our Facebook page and leave a comment on our wall. We love to hear from you!

3) One in six women will be sexually assaulted in their lifetime and 68% of those victims are assaulted by someone they know. In this episode Paige and Gretchen speak with Daisy Whitney, author and host of the New Media Minute, about her new book which addresses the topic of date rape. In Daisy’s book, “The Mockingbirds,” her lead character Alex is date raped by a fellow classmate, but she still finds the courage to stand up for herself and fights back against her attacker. We found the book inspirational and an overall great read. If you have a chance to read “The Mockingbirds” please do so and then visit our Facebook page to tell us what you think. Go HERE for our interview with the author!

4) Do you have tons of old family videos that you have no idea what to do with? Join the club! In THIS episode we invited Tech Guru and Mom, Cat Lambson, to talk with us about some new digital ways we can have fun with our family videos.

5) November is National Adoption Awareness Month! Our good friend and mother of two beautiful boys who were adopted, Lindsey Redfern, joins me today to talk about adoption in the US. The environment is clearly changing, but the need still remains high. With over 100,000 children in foster care, we need more people to consider adoption! Lindsey has become quite an advocate for adoption and shares some great insights with us. You can find out more information at adoption.com or by reading Lindsey’s blog The R House. Many thanks to Lindsey for joining MommyCast today!

TOP TEN Halloween Safety Tips

Me and My Babies, Halloween 2009

Growing up my brothers and I thought that Mom and Dad put on this very convincing act every Halloween night to inspect our trick-or-treat candy and "make sure it was safe." We knew their concern was really just a ploy to let them get their pick of the best candy in the loot. (Dad would always take a… Continue

Homework *Blech!*

*Pulling Soap Box Out* Can I just say that in my opinion homework is single handedly taking all of the fun out of parenting? Seriously. I can hardly say "Hi, how was your day?" without starting to worry about what kind of homework needs to be accomplished that evening. I think if there was a blood pressure cuff on me, there would be a noticeable increase when my children walk through the door. Not to mention the stress they feel because of their homework load and my stress is then piled on… Continue

MommyCast on Your iPhone

Here's how you do it: open up Safari and type www.mommycast.ning.com into the browser. When the Mommycast page opens up look at the bottom of your screen and touch the plus sign. Touch "add to home screen." Voila! Now you have a mommycast button so you can check in easily from your iphone. This works for adding any page you want... but you won't get a cute flower icon like you get from here.
